MOVING CHECKLIST:
Moving can be a stressful time! Making a moving checklist and sticking to it can greatly reduce the stress and ensure the success of a smoother and happier move.
The following are some great tips to prepare you for your move.
About 1 month before the move:
1. Clean house! Decide what items you want to take with you and what items can be donated to charity or sold at a garage sale.
2. Look through your fridge and pantry and try to diminish whatever food supply you may not want to move to your new home.
About 3 weeks before the move:
1. Consider servicing any major appliances that will be making the move with you.
2. Fill out a change of address form with the post office and notify any subscriptions or regular mailing of your new address.
About 2 weeks before the move:
1. Make any necessary travel reservations needed for your move.
2. Decide which items can be packed now and pack, (or hire an outside company to do it for you.)
3. Contact utility companies and arrange to have your services discontinued or transferred.
4. Aarrange to have all utilities turned on at your new address.
About 1 week before the move:
- If you will be using a new bank or credit union, transfer your accounts now.
- Confirm any and all travel arrangements.
- Make sure you have obtained any money orders/certified checks or cash necessary for your move.
- Set aside any games, snacks, or maps you may need for yourself for the move. This is especially helpful if moving out of state or a long distance.
- Gather important paperwork and set in a safe area so that it won’t get lost in the move!
- It is also helpful to place any medicine that is taken on a regular basis in a safe area as well.
The day before the move:
1. Put any needed cleaning supplies and toiletries, (and perhaps your coffee pot,) in a special box that can be loaded last and unloaded first.
2. Finish packing and pack suitcases if necessary.
3. Defrost, clean, and dry refrigerator and freezer.
The Big Day:
1. If you are using a moving company then be on hand to answer any questions the movers may have.
2. Verify with the movers the destination address and any necessary delivery times and/or dates. Also check that the movers have an accurate phone number to reach you at.
3. Make a final check of all items to be moved in the home and be sure to double check garage and any storage units.
4. You are ready!!!
